In a disturbing development, Durban police today rounded up a number of South African street children and took them into custody. The group included some children who were volunteers at the SCWC event, through the South African NGO, Umthombo.
Director of Umthombo, Tom Hewitt, described the police action as 'disgusting', and spent much of the afternoon negotiating the release of the children.
Please pray for the children concerned, and for the wider group of children from eight nations at the SCWC, that the police action would not remove the wonderful air of joy that's been the hallmark of the tournament.

The hope that comes to mind, is that out of this dark cloud there will be a wonderful silver lining. Let's pray that when the children get a chance to speak about safety they speak about this development and that people listen and take action that is positive, helpful and respectful to all people - especially street children.
